Currently, hemp cultivation has experienced an exponential boom worldwide. The profitability of this greenhouse crop is much higher than that of any fruit or vegetable, offering farmers a new way of doing business.

Implementing a Greenhouse cannabis cultivation has great advantages, since it allows you to combine the best of outdoor and indoor cultivation, offering outstanding control over cannabis plants to get the best harvest yield throughout the year.

The structure of a greenhouse provides us security and protection against climatic elements (wind, rain or intense cold), unexpected visits of wild animals, etc. allowing to create a controlled microclimate where you can optimize the life cycle of cannabis plants. Also, being a closed space, growing cannabis in a greenhouse will allow our marijuana plants to be found in a private and discreet place.

All this control over the plants helps to make cannabis grown in a greenhouse more potent in smell and taste than cannabis from outdoors, as its resin and buds have been more protected to the elements. So long as you use marijuana seeds from seed banks with guaranteed provenance, you will get very high quality crops at the end of the growing season.

Growing cannabis in a greenhouse allows us to take advantage of the sunlight, being more efficient and environmentally friendly, avoiding using all day cultivation lighting. Using greenhouses offers the possibility of controlling the lighting during the course of the days of the whole process of the plants. So, we can add more or less light depending on whether we are interested only to keep the plant in vegetative period or, on the contrary, that it grows generating a large amount of biomass. We can also control the level of μmol that we are transferring to our cannabis crop, ensuring that cannabis plants receive the right amount of photons throughout their entire life cycle, even on days of extreme cold, less sun, wind, etc.

At Venalsol Smart Light, we have the best LED lighting for growing cannabis in a greenhouse. Our expertise in the design and manufacture of high-power LED luminaires, and thanks to the joint research project with the university (UPV) makes us a reference in LED lighting for cultivation offering each customer the best possible solution for their business.

Once we have clear the space that we have to implement our cannabis cultivation in greenhouse, we must plan the interior distribution of it and find the most suitable LED lighting for us. Unlike indoor cultivation, greenhouse cannabis requires different features.

Based on experience, it is essential to organize the available space in a proper and efficient manner, as this saves time and money. In addition, having a well-organized greenhouse provides workers with a clean and favorable environment for the easy handling of cannabis plants. All this helps to preserve the quality of the fruit from the harvest season until transport to packaging of the final product.

In most greenhouse cannabis crops in which we participate the different areas of cultivation have dimensions between 1.85m and 2m wide. There are also some customers who have widths of 1.3m or 2.6m.

Depending on the use you are going to give to the corridors, you should consider leaving more space or not. If you are going to have a rail that moves a truck will be necessary a corridor of 0.8 to 1m width, ensuring that the passage is done with the greatest possible safety. If, on the other hand, it is only going to be used for workers to access and handle cannabis plants, with a width of 0.6m corridor is sufficient. Some of our customers have even chosen to minimize this distance to 40cm, seeking to allocate the largest possible area of the greenhouse for cannabis cultivation. Another formula to consider is to use the greenhouse as a open area and sacrifice access to crops in order to house as many plants as possible and compensate for the lack of pruning or application of possible cultivation techniques.

Not being the main source of light for our cannabis plants, the LED luminaire we install in the greenhouse must have a linear shape, ensuring that we generate less shadows on the crop and help make the best use of the number of hours of natural light. For this reason, it should be considered that the distance between the apices of the plants and the light-emitting source has to be greater than in an indoor crop.

To ensure that the harvest of the resulting fruits is as homogeneous as possible, LED lighting should be installed at a distance of 1.5m, Leaving enough space for natural and artificial light to work in harmony and ensure the lighting needs of greenhouse cannabis crops. This distance is flexible as in some greenhouses installed this distance has decreased to 1 or 1.2m or increased to 2m.

In our product catalogue, we have a luminaire designed according to the needs of cannabis cultivation in greenhouse in large professional farms, where the quantity and quality of the harvest is an important economic factor in addressing crop investment.

The AGRO-K LED projector has a real consumption of 600W and has a connection cable that allows you to control the intensity of the LED light, generating synergy with the contribution of natural light and thus achieving an optimal potential for growth and flowering with an optimized electricity consumption.

Its PAR efficiency is 2.3μmol/J. Although, as you can see in the image below, our AGRO-K LED projector also emits light outside of the PAR band: ultraviolet (385nm) and far red or infrared (730nm). Therefore, this efficiency does not take into account the energy provided by ultraviolet and infrared light. The efficiency only takes into account photons that are provided in the PAR range (photosynthetically active radiation).

The AGRO-K LED spotlight targets 25W in ultraviolet (UV) and 15W in infrared (IR). If this energy was destined to the PAR range, the "measurable" efficiency increases considerably, the energy efficiency in photon production in the PAR zone is higher than the intended out of it. Instead, this light outside the PAR range greatly increases the quantity and quality of the crop.

Among the options offered by the LED spotlight AGRO-K is the power to supply it with a specific spectrum for each of the phases of cannabis plants: vegetative phase or flowering phase. This feature is used in the projects of professional farms to optimize the productivity according to the needs that has the cultivation of cannabis in greenhouse of each of them.

In the vegetative phase, the P70 spectrum is more efficient, while in the flowering and maturing phase of the crop, the P17 spectrum is more efficient, in terms of the quality and quantity of evolution of these phases. If the same greenhouse space is to be used for both growth and flowering and maturation of cannabis plants, it is advisable to use the P71 spectrum to take advantage of ultraviolet and infrared energy inputs and thus maximize quality and final production of the crop.

Cannabis plants use light frequencies in the range of 390 to 730 nanometers (nm) for photosynthesis. Cannabis plant photoreceptors can harness the energy of a wider light spectrum. We do not see part of the light that the cannabis plant can take advantage of, but that does not mean that they do not need this energy to obtain a better benefit in vegetative growth and in stimulation, production and quality of the harvest. Another of the features that offers us the LED projector AGRO-K for growing cannabis in greenhouse is the possibility of having two mounting options:

Growing cannabis in a greenhouse 9

Fixing in suspension

Allows you to quickly and easily vary the distance of the AGRO-K LED spotlight for greenhouse cannabis cultivation from the apices of cannabis plants.

Growing cannabis in a greenhouse 10

Sliding anchor

This option allows you to anchor and vary by safely sliding the longitudinal position (L) of the AGRO-K LED spotlight for greenhouse cannabis cultivation.
