When we think of an LED lighting project for a logistics warehouse, we don’t just think of the aesthetic details but the practical ones. A logistics warehouse is a workspace where we have to take into account the safety and visual comfort, for this reason it is very important an adequate lighting for each area.

Logistics warehouses have different areas and are intended for different uses, depending on the type of activity to be carried out. The standard establishes minimum lighting requirements, such as the average illuminance for each zone or task, which must not be lower than those indicated in the standard, we also have to see the minimum levels of uniformity and UGR (limit of Unified Glare Index UGR) to avoid accidents or discomfort in the workers.
The regulations tell us about lighting requirements according to activity. They also tell us about three basic human needs:
- ● Visual comfort: workers have a sense of well-being, it also contributes indirectly to a high level of productivity.
- ● Visual benefits: workers are able to carry out their tasks even in difficult circumstances or long periods of work.
- ● Security.
The specific regulations for each work area some specific lux. Therefore, let’s talk about different LED lamps differentiating the different zones:
SHELVING AREA IN LOGISTIC WAREHOUSE
The shelving areas of logistics warehouses are characterized by transit corridors that allow access to stored products. These aisles are usually narrow to be able to make good use of the space and in this case we also have to optimize the LED lighting looking for the highest light efficiency and the greatest energy savings.
In this area the regulations indicate that if there are walkways or control stations, the minimum average is 150 lux and the measurement must be carried out at ground level. In the case of unattended corridors, that is to say automated corridors, where a machine collects the product, the average level is 20 lux. On the other hand, it also tells us that the shelf face of the storage has to be 200 lux.

The storage area is the largest within a logistics warehouse. That’s why we have different accessories for our LED high bays.
We have a light sensor that together with the control system Zigbee you can regulate the lumens emitted by the LED bell according to the natural light that has the space. In addition to being able to turn on and off from your Smartphone and we also have a motion sensor that keeps the bells off until it detects movement at a distance of up to 15 meters.
These accessories will help us reduce energy consumption where it is not necessary to have the LED high bay on at all times.
OPEN WORK AREAS IN A LOGISTICS WAREHOUSE
In logistics warehouses there are not only shelves, but also clear areas that are areas of order preparation, loading and unloading... For these work areas the regulations require us 300 lux and some uniformity, since they are areas where more lighting is needed to work packaging products, creating labels, loading trucks... so that the worker needs good lighting so as not to strain or tire his sight.
In this case, circular industrial lamps, commonly called LED high bays, with symmetrical optics can be installed to achieve higher levels of uniformity. In Venalsol Smart Light we have different LED luminaires with different characteristics, among them we have the CEL-T. A circular LED high bay that depending on the height at which they are installed will have an optical or another and a power or other.
This LED high bay has an aluminum design and manufacture to achieve greater cooling capacity. It also offers high light output for better visual comfort.
As we discussed with the previous luminaire, the LEN-T, this LED high bay allows to adapt different types of control to convert this LED high bay into an intelligent system, such as a motion sensor, a light sensor or can be managed from Zigbee.
This LED high bay also has different optics depending on the area to be installed, the lux required or the installation height.

OUTER AREAS OF LOGISTIC WAREHOUSES
Last but not least, let’s talk about outdoor lighting of logistics warehouses. We have two different types of LED luminaires for outdoor, LED spotlights and LED street lamps. This type of LED lamps, as the name suggests, are outdoor LED luminaires, which covers from street lighting, vehicle circulation, loading and unloading areas and even illuminating the facade of the nave to illuminate the company sign.
In logistics warehouses, the outdoor area, the regulations distinguish different areas, for example, parking must have a minimum of 20 lux, the loading and unloading zone 50 lux or traffic zones 100 lux.
For the outdoor lighting of logistics warehouses with LED technology, we have LED floodlights, such as the PRE LED floodlight, which can be installed on the facade of the building or on columns. This type of LED lighting is very efficient and has several optics, both symmetrical and asymmetric for the different needs that each company has.

In addition, the IP degree of protection of the LED spotlight must be taken into account, as LED luminaires are exposed to adverse conditions such as sun, wind and rain when installed outside logistics warehouses. Our PRE LED floodlight has an IP 66 protection (dustproof and protected against powerful water jets).
EMERGENCY MODE (AND)
Some of our LED luminaires work in normal mode and if at any time there is a power cut they go into emergency mode running at 8W for approximately 3 hours or until the supply resumes. In addition, it has a switch where you can turn off the LED emergency mode and a status indicator that tells us whether the LED luminaire is charged or not.
COLOUR TEMPERATURE (K)
Another feature to consider is the area that is in LED lighting is the choice of color it will produce, the color temperature can vary from a warm white to a cold white through a neutral white.
In this case, a cold white temperature is recommended inside logistics warehouses, as it improves the vision of colors due to its high color rendering index and improves concentration. This decision is important because the workers spend many hours at their jobs. In outdoor logistics warehouses, a neutral white is recommended, as in some areas of Spain it is limited to 4000k by regulation, since the color temperature of the road LED luminaire affects light pollution.
