Why is the LED light of marijuana LED lamps on the market purple?

It is purple because the green spectrum and some of the yellow of the color composition emitted by the LED bulb are removed.

Why are they doing this with LED light for growing cannabis?

The green color is removed because it is the one which the plant does not need. Chlorophyll is the largest amount of plant photoreceptors, but they absorb almost no green light. So you see the green leaves, because they reflect this color of light It is a "technical cut" implemented to sell you more energy savings, while it is not the most favorable to the plant in all its stages of life.

The complete elimination of the green component has advantages in terms of the wattage energy consumed by the luminaries, since it concentrates all the energy in the colors most absorbed by the plant, but NOT in terms of quantity and quality of the harvest.

On the other hand, the plant also needs a green and yellow component, which penetrates better into the canopy of the plant; although less necessary, it has more internal foliage to be absorbed, necessary during the stages of germination and growth, for the proper functioning of photosynthesis, absorption and transformation of nutrients.

If some of the cannabis LED projector's colors are removed, why call it FULL SPECTRUM?

Most suppliers define this purple color as "FULL SPECTRUM" ... According to our professional opinion, defining the "full spectrum" of a light devoid of colors is not appropriate. The perfect full spectrum would be sunlight, with a color performance of 100 (Ra) and all its colors.

What would be the light that could be called "full spectrum for cannabis"?

An appropriate spectrum for cannabis, the "full spectrum" is the one that best promotes the absorption of nutrients (380-740nm). This full-spectrum cannabis approach would consist of 4000k light-colored SMD LED chips, with SMD LED chips with light-color contributions of less than 400 nm (ultra-violet), and LED SMD chips red and far infrared (> 720 nm) that guarantee quality and quantity in production, in addition to promoting the vegetative growth of the cannabis plant, also stimulates the production and quality of trichomes and terpenes.

This spectrum of colors is used for all stages of the plant, germination, growth and flowering.

Conclusions on the composition of the color of light for cannabis cultivation:

Purple light color spectrum

Purple light composed solely of blue and red light components is a light adapted to the stage of growth but not to the stage of flowering.

Full spectrum for cannabis cultivation

Light of a more natural color, which provides components (UV) less than 400 nm, a more complete spectrum (4000 K) of red and far red (infrared) is a full cycle light, from germination to bloom.

Red light spectrum for cannabis reinforcement.

Red light, which only provides red and far red (infrared) components, is only a reinforcing light for flowering.

    Buenos dias, queria preguntar si ese rango de luz de 380-740nm es apto para cualquier tipo de planta. O varia segun la espicie ? La zona geografica afecta tambien al ragon del espectro ??

    Replied by : Vicente Pellicer On 17/11/2021 Buenos días, el espectro de luz que me indicas es para estimular el incremento de producción de resina ( luz UV ), cualquier variedad hembra de cannabis como respuesta defensiva ante este espectro de luz incrementará su producción de resina.
